Change the World (ft. Noodle Noo)

lyrics

You know, I've been listening to a lot of the music that's out there right now, and I don't think they realize sometimes how much of an impact their music has on the world today. So with that being said, I'm not downplaying none of your music at all, man. But I want you to realize that the youth is watching everything that you do. Please keep that in mind.

What if I told you that this world's future was in your control,
And a change in you could change the entire world as a whole?
And if you never change, the entire world's like a hole
Praying up to heaven with hell on Earth, and down we'll go
It's time we start the rising, building up our horizons
We're tired, they're dying from so much unnecessary violence
Mothers are crying, applying for jobs that deny 'em
Gas prices, they're rising, it's time we stand up and I am
A leader taking a chance, put me on the frontline
Everybody ride with me for equality one time
I feel it's now or never, we've experienced the weather
Like Katrina, now I need us to stop and live together
'Cause I don't really want to hear about any more shots, we're trying to live
Musicians and rappers, make at least one song that's positive
Not just about gettin' it in the hood but gettin' out of it
They're using us to keep our people down, y'all see how foul it is?
What time it is, they keep us in the dark, we're in prison
Let's work to end this and, for the future, aim at the system
So turn the lights on, America; let's all pay attenion
And turn the mics on, musicians - the people will listen

They're trying to turn the lights off, lights off - turn 'em back on
Get our mics out, mics out - listen to the song
I'm trying to change the world within a day
I'm trying to change the whole world today
We felt that it was over, it's time we learn to fight
We're never going nowhere unless we learn to unite
Get our mics out, mics out - listen to the song
I'm trying to change the world within a day

Sometimes I wish that Dr. Martin Luther King was still here
I wish I had more of an influence on the people that are here
I remember Mama told me, "Son, you keep your chin to the sky
Even when you cry, you keep it up - no matter what, you'll get by"
And I've been good since, stopped pointing my fingers at my brothers
My women, I love you to death, doesn't matter your color
No room to judge anybody no more, we're here for each other
No room to judge anybody no more, we're here for each other
No wonder it's been so hard, we're still fighting a war
'Cause some were raised to embrace hate, not anymore
If I want this world to be better, it starts within me
And with you, it starts within you, I'm hoping you will soon see
That this world can be the greatest place that you'd want to be
See, you and me can get through the worst if we moved as a team
Set an example for the kids, I stand here as a man
Unite the world or die trying, as hard as I can

They're trying to turn the lights off, lights off - turn 'em back on
Get our mics out, mics out - listen to the song
I'm trying to change the world within a day
I'm trying to change the whole world today
We felt that it was over, it's time we learn to fight
We're never going nowhere unless we learn to unite
Get our mics out, mics out - listen to the song
I'm trying to change the world within a day

I think that sometimes we forget how powerful music really is. As musicians, I understand a lot of us have goals and dreams to make the money and the fame. But what you write in your songs and what you display in your videos, the youth are watching. Keep in mind, they're watching. Turn your lights on.
